A Lifesaving Action - CPR

Dr.Syed K.Haque

Recently, it was reported that Michael Jackson's doctor didn't know CPR. Perhaps, he didn't follow the standard CPR procedure. He used one hand technique which is used in children under 8 years of age. Secondly,CPR should be done on a hard surface. As Michael Jackson was lying on his soft bed, he used his other hand behind his back to make up for hard surface. It's reported that he is a cardiologist. He didn't move him to the floor. Whatever the truth is or whatever his reasons were , let us learn the standard CPR technique for the untrained.

In adults, chest compression is the most important part of CPR. During cardiac arrest, heart stops pumping blood. High quality chest compression squeezes blood out of non-contracting heart to the vital organs. Thus, you keep the vital organs alive till helps arrive. Sometimes heart comes out of the arrest and starts pumping blood normally. Everyone should know this technique.
